Service dogs bring comfort, confidence, and independence to the people they serve, helping create lasting, positive changes in their daily lives. A service dog is a specially trained canine partner that performs specific tasks to assist a person with a disability. These incredible dogs support a wide range of health and wellness needs—both physical and emotional—allowing their handlers to live more freely, safely, and fully.
There are many types of service dogs, each trained for a unique purpose. Medical assistance dogs help manage health conditions by alerting to low blood sugar, detecting seizures, or identifying dangerous allergens. Mobility assistance dogs provide physical support by retrieving items, opening doors, offering balance, or helping with movement and stability. Psychiatric service dogs support mental health by interrupting anxiety or panic attacks, reminding their handler to take medication, or providing calming comfort through deep pressure therapy. Guide and hearing dogs assist individuals with sensory challenges—guide dogs help those who are blind or visually impaired navigate their environment, while hearing dogs alert their handlers to important sounds such as alarms, doorbells, or voices.
Every service dog is trained with dedication and purpose, becoming a trusted companion and partner in independence. Their presence not only enhances safety and wellbeing but also brings hope, connection, and a sense of empowerment to the lives they touch.
