Ethics Policy
Tails Of Togetherness Society
Effective Date: September 1, 2025
1. Purpose
The purpose of this Ethics Policy is to establish and uphold the standards of integrity, transparency, professionalism, and compassion expected of all individuals affiliated with Tails Of Togetherness Society. This policy guides conduct in alignment with our mission to support and strengthen the lives of people and pets through accessible, reliable, and inclusive services.
2. Core Ethical Principles
All employees, board members, volunteers, contractors, and representatives of the organization are expected to adhere to the following principles:
A. Compassion and Respect
• Treat all clients—human and animal—with dignity, kindness, and empathy.
• Respect the unique needs of individuals, including those with disabilities, mental health conditions, or grief.
B. Integrity and Accountability
• Act honestly and ethically in all professional activities.
• Be transparent in decision-making and financial practices.
• Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them immediately when they arise.
C. Confidentiality
• Protect the privacy of clients, staff, donors, and partners.
• Do not disclose sensitive information without appropriate authorization or legal obligation.
D. Professionalism
• Uphold the highest standards of conduct, competence, and communication.
• Comply with all organizational policies and applicable laws, including those related to animal welfare, ADA compliance, HIPAA (if applicable), and nonprofit governance.
E. Animal Welfare
• Ensure humane, ethical, and compassionate treatment of all animals in our care.
• Support positive training methods and support of training methods styled for each dog as all dogs are different and need different approaches.
3. Mission-Centered Behavior
As stewards of Tails Of Togetherness Society’s mission, all individuals are expected to:
• Act in ways that advance the organization’s commitment to veterans, individuals with medical needs, and the broader community through service and support animals.
• Support a safe, inclusive environment in our training programs, workshops, grooming services, and community outreach.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and mutual respect among staff, volunteers, and those we serve.
4. Conflict of Interest
Employees and board members must avoid situations where personal interests conflict—or appear to conflict—with the mission or operations of the organization. Any potential conflicts must be disclosed to leadership, and decisions must be made in the best interest of the organization and those it serves.
5. Reporting Violations
Anyone who becomes aware of unethical, illegal, or dishonest behavior is encouraged to report the concern through the proper channels. Reports can be made to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) or, if necessary, to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Retaliation against individuals who report concerns in good faith is strictly prohibited.
6. Compliance and Review
This policy will be reviewed annually by the Board of Directors. All employees, board members, and volunteers must acknowledge receipt and understanding of this policy and commit to its principles.
7. Consequences of Violations
Violations of this Ethics Policy may result in disciplinary action, including warnings, suspension, termination, or removal from volunteer or board positions, depending on the severity of the breach.
